LinkedIn: Moving from the Encyclopedia to News

In a 2006 Forbes article, Mark Zuckerberg, in connection with Facebook’s introduction of News Feed, said, “Before, it was an encyclopedia model, but now we’re changing to a news model.”   News Feed in fact has kept Facebook users engaged on a regular basis, so that users don’t become mere registrations with little reason to return.  

I have previously posted my LinkedIn “Career Formula” meant to capture the opportunity for app developers to make LinkedIn more engaging so that it is playing on the regular interaction of “news” rather than on the irregular need for an “encyclopedia.”  I am happy to see LinkedIn (as captured in this and this TechCrunch post) moving in that direction and also underscoring the opportunity for entrepreneurs.
