One of many recent overviews on the multitude of group text apps appears in BusinessWeek. Not sure I see the use case in group texting apps for me except in the rare instance (and when I do need it I think my iPhone handles group texts and most of my friends and family members have some sort of smartphone). Maybe the kids/teenagers set might use it for random chatter, and folks in their 20s might use it on a weekend to plan an event (but many would also have smartphones). In any event, there are probably a few opportunities to sell to other companies as a feature as validated by Facebook’s acquisition of Beluga. There is nothing wrong with that as I have said before, but unless I am missing something, I don’t see these applications being the seeds for larger companies.
